Psychological Assessment Resources uses a three-stage approach to assisting people who wish to embark on a personal leadership program: helping clients identify their personality TYPE; assisting them in recognizing adaptive coping behaviors TRAITS; and working toward synergy in their relations with others TEAM.
While type theories of personality assert and emphasize that all the personality types (all four-letter combinations in the "alphabet soup") are equally important, valuable and useful, trait theory takes a different point of view. Pointing to the mountain of literature drawn from all the psychometric research, trait theory concludes that socially extraverted, agreeable, open and conscientious people are better adapted to succeed in the world.
Psychological Assessment Resources' experience indicates that many successful introverted-types may focus on improving their social skills until they appear to be socially extraverted, and many sensing-types who undertake personal development as a serious mission learn to be more open or to give the impression of being so. Many influential thinker-types have realized the value of being agreeable, and may come across as "nice guys." And, the most accomplished perceptive-types usually have devised tricks and strategies to become more conscientious, especially when they're dealing with others who count on follow-through.
